About Camp Chateaugay

Nestled on the shores of beautiful Chateaugay Lake in New York's Adirondack Mountains, Camp Chateaugay has been creating unforgettable summer experiences since 1946. More than just a traditional co-ed sleepaway camp, Chateaugay is a place where children discover new passions, build confidence, develop independence, and form friendships that last a lifetime. From sailing, waterskiing, and sports to creative arts, theatre, outdoor adventures, and cherished camp traditions, every day brings opportunities to explore, learn, and grow. But what truly makes Chateaugay special is its community. Our caring, dedicated staff create a welcoming and supportive environment where every camper is encouraged to be themselves, try something new, and feel part of something bigger. At Camp Chateaugay, we believe the most meaningful part of summer isn't just what children do, but who they become along the way. Camp Chateaugay. Where Everyone Belongs.

Community on a beautiful lake

I attended this camp as a teen, and worked for a few summers too. I am lucky enough to have been sending my two daughters to Chateaugay for the past five summers. Chateaugay is a camp full of spirit, belonging, and fun. Yes the activities are awesome, and the lake is gorgeous. But really Chateaugay is a place where kids figure out friendships, explore belonging as there true selves, helping other kids be part of the community. Chateaugay Is a place to try new things, one daughter learned some cool martial arts (staff spinning) one summer and salsa the next. My other daughter loves being in the shows and also figured out she likes kayaking! One daughter takes sailing as often as possible, which she definitely can’t do at home! Both kids have learned to speak up for themselves, to help out other kids and to have lots of silly fun. Chateaugay Has lots of songs and traditions that everyone learns. My kids don’t love the food, but they don’t love the food at home either :) my kids talk about camp all year long, the staff they love, songs that remind them of camp. They have made friendships too. I have reconnected with many of my camp friends, it’s a special place in our hearts for camp and each other.

Best summers ever

Camp Chateaugay is truly a magical place for children and adults alike! As a former camper, I’ve watched camp grow over the decades into an even more incredible place than I could have imagined. There is something for everyone, and the staff encourages campers to step outside their comfort zones and try new things. From waterskiing, wakeboarding, woodworking, A-field activities, and glassblowing to campfires, morning sandbar swims, and sunrise hikes, there is no shortage of excitement, adventure, and opportunities to discover something new! But what makes Chateaugay truly special goes beyond the activities. It’s about being with friends, growing together, and making core memories that last a lifetime. Often, it’s the littlest things you remember most: the late-night conversations, the stacking cup competitions, or simply the best pancakes. Camp Chateaugay is a place where lifelong friendships are formed, confidence grows, and memories stay with you long after summer ends.

Third generation campers

I attended Camp Chateaugay along with my brother and cousins. My three children enjoyed the benefits of this wonderful camp and now my grandchildren will spend their second summer at Camp Chateaugay. The focus on each campers needs is exemplary. The staff are mature, nurturing, creative, and well trained in their specialty. There is a strong sense of community and spirit throughout the camp. Camp Chateaugay is a camp that fosters children's confidence, independence, growth and skills.

First summer, best summer

My daughter (8) had her first overnight camp experience at Chateaugay last summer and has not stopped talking about it. Three months later, she is still teaching us songs she learned, telling us about her friends, and showing us new skills she picked up during her favorite activities. As her parents, what we love most is that she returned from camp a more independent, curious, adventurous kid who will try anything once and with gusto. We are all so excited for her second summer!

Best camp ever!

Camp Chateaugay is deeply rooted in traditions, from Carnival Day and the Fourth of July celebrations to singing songs and making s'mores around the campfire. There is an incredible variety of activities to choose from. My son enjoyed everything from playing baseball and woodworking to learning to play the piano, while my niece spent the summer waterskiing, swimming in the lake, caring for the camp animals and participating in the camp musical. Each day brings new adventures while the nightly activities bring the entire camp together for fun, laughter, and a wonderful sense of community. The staff are supportive, nurturing and well-trained, creating an environment where children feel safe, encouraged, and free to grow. Surrounded by the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains, Chateaugay is a place where children build meaningful friendships, develop confidence and independence, and create memories that last a lifetime.
